About

Independent, by construction.

Velkor exists because the information available to an international buyer about an Indian supplier is almost entirely supplied by the supplier. We work the other side of that.

We don't tell you who to trust. We show you what we verified.

How we work

Four commitments.

01

Buyer-side, without exception

We act for the buyer. Our findings are not shaped by what a supplier would prefer you to read, and a supplier cannot commission a report about itself.

02

Evidence before opinion

Every position in a Velkor report is attached to something you can inspect: a filing, a photograph, a register lookup, a document, a dated observation.

03

The gap is part of the report

What we could not establish is written down as plainly as what we could. An absence of evidence is information, and hiding it would be the only real failure.

04

The decision stays with you

We do not issue verdicts, scores or grades. You know your tolerance for risk, your timeline and your market. We make sure you are deciding with the facts in front of you.

Where we operate

Inside the Indian supply base.

India’s manufacturing base is deep, fragmented and unevenly documented. The best unit for your product is often not the one with the best website.

Indian exporters divide formally into manufacturer exporters and merchant exporters, and a great deal of production is subcontracted stage by stage. Both are ordinary. Both mean the company on your quotation is not always the company that would make your goods.

Working from inside that ecosystem is the only way to tell the difference. We do the checking on the ground, in the registers, and in the documents — then write down what we found.

Acting for

International buyers, importers, distributors and procurement teams.

Never for

Suppliers seeking a favourable report about themselves.

Who you deal with

A named person, not a desk.

Velkor is small by design. The person who reviews your supplier is the person you speak to — there is no account manager relaying questions to an analyst you never meet, and nobody hands your brief to a junior once the engagement is signed.

If something in a report is unclear, or you want to know why a finding was recorded as an open question rather than a failure, you can ask the person who wrote it.

Velkor works from Nagpur, which is the part that matters most: when a supplier’s address needs looking at, someone can go and look at it. Tanmay works in Marathi and Hindi as well as English, so a conversation on a factory floor is not limited to whoever was sent out to speak to the visitor.

Why Velkor exists.

Velkor started with a question: when an international buyer finds a supplier in India, how much can they actually know about that supplier before committing money?

Before Velkor I worked in ML Data Operations at Amazon — the work behind machine-learning systems, where the task is to decide whether a given record is right, against a written standard, over and over. You learn quickly that a record is worth exactly as much as what it can be traced back to, that most errors are quiet rather than obvious, and that the honest answer is often that a thing cannot be decided from what you have. Volume does not rescue a claim with no source behind it. Neither does confidence.

Being around a business operating at that scale also made me think about what sits behind the products we eventually see — where they come from, who makes them, and how much of that a buyer can actually see.

That question became more personal after a small experience of my own. I once ordered something through an Instagram advertisement. When the parcel arrived, the product I had ordered wasn’t in it. It was a small purchase, but the uncertainty stayed with me.

I had been waiting for that parcel. Then I started thinking about what the same uncertainty would feel like for someone who has ordered five hundred or a thousand units from another country. The stakes are completely different. The buyer may have committed a significant amount of money, waited weeks for production and shipping, and still have limited visibility into what is happening at the other end.

That is the gap I saw. Finding an Indian supplier is becoming easier. Knowing what is actually behind that supplier is harder.

Is the company what it claims to be?Identity
Can it actually produce what it is offering?Capability
Do the documents support the claims?Documentation
Does the commercial arrangement make sense?Commercial Fit
Can it support the intended export?Export Capability
What remains unknown before the buyer commits?Risk

Those six questions became the six checkpoints.

I wanted Velkor to sit between those questions and the procurement decision. Not as a marketplace that tells buyers which supplier to choose. Not as a broker asking buyers to trust a recommendation. But as a buyer-side intelligence and verification layer in India.

Our role is to investigate what can be established, document the evidence, identify discrepancies, and make unresolved questions visible. Verification is not about creating a perfect picture. Sometimes the most useful finding is knowing what has been verified, what has only been partially established, what could not be verified, and what still needs an answer.

I believe Indian manufacturing has enormous potential in global supply chains. International buyers should be able to reach that capability without making decisions based purely on distance, promises or assumptions.

Velkor exists to make that distance a little less uncertain.
